You may think your home is due for an upgrade and it’s easy to feel that any appreciable change will be a big undertaking. Let’s face it; we’ve all seen those great HGTV shows that feature great, stunning makeovers. An undertaking that huge can be daunting for your time as well as your wallet, but there’s no reason it always has to come to that. Sometimes, all you need is a little a spruce and you’ll be surprised what a few small home decor changes can do to breathe new life into your home.
1. Upgrade your bedding
Even the best kept sheets need some upgrading after good use. Maybe for you this means trying a new color scheme or a new duvet. Maybe you can have different bedding for different seasons (lighter and more colorful for summer, warmer and deeper for the winter). Or maybe for you this means upgrading the quality of your sheets from basic store brands to luxury sheets. It’s worth considering something like bamboo bedding. Made from viscose bamboo, they are available in a variety of colors and sizes that are, at once, eco-friendly and incredibly luxurious. Ultra-soft and good to look at, these will be sure to take your bedroom set to a new level.
2. Give some life to the room with fresh plants
A small and simple change, try adding either potted plants or nice bouquets to your living and dining rooms. They add color and literal life to the room as well as a sense of tranquility. If you have a garden, it can be nice to pull your plants from there. Or adding a nice ficus in the corner or a hanging pot of ivy and flowers from the ceiling. Just make sure to water them everyday!
3. Hang pictures
Nothing says home like lovely pictures of you and your loved ones around. Play with photos in full color, muted, or black and white. Play with matte sizes and colors and frames, placement on the walls or end tables. Good wall ornaments can really make a room, so it’s well worth the investment of your time.
4. Get rid of the slatted window shades
Nothing brings down the ambiance of a room like those non-descript slatted shades that clang and stick together when you try to close them. Try upgrading to curtains, roman shades or cordless roman shades. You can pick them in a variety of colors and they have a simple design that doesn’t detract from the atmosphere of the room. Typically woven with soft natural cotton or jute, they give just the right amount of light and are soft to the touch.
5. Upgrade your lighting
A great way to improve your home is to give some serious thought to your lighting. Choose the right bulb for soft atmospheric light or bright, warm light. Replace that old rickety lamp in the corner and think about hanging lights. Play with light shades and the amount of light you want for the daytime or night. It can do wonders to change the atmosphere in a room.
